I resolved this issue myself. The original VM had its hardware settings pointing to autoinst.iso. It didn't have that file and when I ran it the error didn't prevent the VM from booting up. I cloned that VM and the hardware settings had the floppy disk pointing to autoinst.flp. I removed that hardware setting and now I can create an OVF file for it.
Re: Export failed: File (\autoinst.flp) could not be found.
Re: vmnic0 on ESXi 5.5U2 not active at boot
Hi,
This KB article is not for ESXi 5.5 but maybe resolved your issue with NICs:
VMware KB: ESXi/ESX host loses network connectivity after adding new NICs or an upgrade
Re: New to vCenter with questions
Hi ,
ok locally, if you ping the fqdn ew mydomain.ddns.net does that respond to 192.168.1.12? or are you resolving to an external ?
Lets see if we can get internal working first.

Re: Can't run an scheduled PowerCLI task on Windows 7
LucD,
Tried right now and didn't worked either.
What I saw is the Scheduled task was not running with an user that had admin rights on my machine.
Changed it and it seems to be working the logon section... The Excel file isn't opening now... Trying to figure it out why...
But thanks =]
Recommendation/advice needed: Assigning multiple static IPs to VMs on one server (Windows Server 08)
I have a project that requires some unique IPs. I want each static IP (already bought them/registered 30 of them from my ISP) to resolve to it's unique windows VM. I have 1 4-port modem, and the server will be directly connected to it. My ISP tells me I can setup a virtual nic card, for each one accordingly, on the server.
My questions are: has anyone done this before? I want to be able to remotely connect to each VM on the fly, sometimes multiple simultaneously (if possible). I will not have physical access to the server, so I need this to be fully functional remotely. I am not using a data center, I am hosting this myself.
Will I be able to accomplish this with VMWare? Can I have simultaneous virtual network adapters? I will be running Windows 7 on each VM. Will this be as simple as setting the desired IP while inside the VM in accordance with my ISP's dns settings? it's Oceanic Time Warner btw.
Will I be able to connect to more than one of the VMs at the same time? If not- what hardware would I require?
I'm not a complete newbie by any means, I'm just not a virtual machine expert.
I would also like to request a recommendation for a server build for this, budget is ~$1800. My internet speed will be 100 mbit up/50 down. I will not be doing anything resource heavy on the vms, just running chrome or firefox.
Any advice would be appreciated, can even toss you some paypal money for the consult.
Re: Things that are broken in vSphere 6
How about the "Revert to current snapshot" button NOT being greyed out when no snapshot exists (easy way to tell there is no snapshot)
No ESXi 6.0 selection in update manager to limit patches to this version only
While I'm mentioning it the web client is still the worst piece of junk to be forced down our throat and is worthless if you have an environment bigger than 2 hosts.... The C# client should be primary and the web client as a back-up/misc user option.
Get a list of Remaining XP VMs

Sending alerts from vCenter to vROPS
Hi guys,
We decided to monitor our infrastructure with vROPS. Wer'e sending the alerts to vROrch and then to our ticketing system. The only problem is that we cannot make the alerts for a specific object in vCenter appear in vROPS. So e.g. if an alert gets generated in vCenter on the cluster level, we'd like that to be visible under alerts in vROPS as well. Theoretically we can do that using SNMP, but I was hoping for something easier to set up. Do you know how can we accomplish that without SNMP?
Thanks

Re: client shows connected but nothing being uploaded
If you centralized the endpoint as a regular CVD, you need to delete it.
Centralize the endpoint as a Reference CVD, and then use Capture Layer to capture a base layer (which is a "snapshot" of the uploaded reference CVD).
You can then assign this base layer to other endpoints, eg. by provisioning.
The base layer may include both the OS and applications.
Re: Vmware View - PCOIP - Random Disconnects - High Ram usage
We cloned the golden machine, then started from scratch with another Windows 7 image. After that, I couldn't crash the PCOIP connection.
Everything is the same: vcpus, memory, VMware Tools, VMware Agent, etc.
The new image differences are Windows updates from WSUS and Net Framework 4.5. The other stuff are like Codec Lite, Java, Adobe Flash Player, QuickTime, etc. but shouldn't do anything.
Fusion 7, Windows 7 guest, Unity option greyed out
Hi. Trying to get Unity to work, but no luck so far! I'm a Mac & Fusion newbie (well, ish, now) so take pity on me and use short instructions!
When I started out with the Mac (Macbook Pro, 2014 version) I had problems with disk space and networks capacity and VMing my old Windows laptop. So I originally had the VM on a (powered) external drive, and then later on moved it quite happily to a USB (unpowered) external drive. I always understood that VMs on external drives couldn't use Unity. So far so good.
Eventually, migrating enough stuff off the VM and onto the Mac, I shrunk the VM to the point where it could fit onto the Mac. So I copied it across, added it to the library, and quite happily continued using the VM. But I would like to get Unity working, and it remains obstinately greyed out.
I eventually managed to update my VM tools in the guest OS, once I worked out where that option was, and I have restarted the virtual machine - but still no joy. I have also tried looking to see if it is shared or not - it doesn't come up as shared in the library, but I am aware that some posters elsewhere have said that this doesn't necessarily reflect the settings on the files inside the VM folders. But again, I cannot find the files that I need to change as I don't seem to have a package file.
Can anyone help? Thanks!
Happy to attach logs - but please tell me which ones, where I can find them and how (if necessary) to create them!

Confused on licensing options
Hi
We already have vSphere ESXi Enterprise on our hosts. I'm considering whether to upgrade these to add on vR Ops (either Standard or Advanced). I'm confused about the licensing so hoping someone can help me....
- Can anyone point me to a URL that shows me what to purchase to upgrade from vSphere ESXi Enterprise to vSphere ESXi Enterprise plus vROps Standard?
- The same as (1) but "plus vROps Advanced"
- If I install the vROps trial, how can I tell which bts I wouldn't get if I just had vROps Standard?
- And if I can ONLY buy 25 VM packs for vROps Advanced, do I need to upgrade vSphere to vROps standard and THEN additionally buy 25 VM packs, or just buy vROps 25 VM packs.
Why do VMware make their licensing soooo horrendous, ambiguous and confusing?!
Thanks
which is the risk of not restart a vm vmware tools after upgrade
I have ESXi 5.1 and ESXi 5.5 on the same virtual environment, update manually VMware tools in a VM windows and was prompted to restart, as the vm is in production I can not do because they must request authorization has some risk if no reboot?
Re: VMware 6.0 Update Manager Client Installation not in Install menu
Just a plug-in in the C# if I'm not mistaken?
Re: Can I install Windows using a virtual machine on my EHDD? (External Hard Disk)
so, how exactly would I do that? During the installation, can I direct my installing on to my EHDD? Can you give me a basic walkthrough? Planning to install Windows 7 btw.
failed to deploy ovf package: invalid configuration for device '7'
Whn I try to Deploy an ovf file on Vsphere client for Esxi5.5, I get the error message:
"failed to deploy ovf package: invalid configuration for device '7'"
What does it mean? I have not found any information about it.
I could deploy other .ovf files, but there is one that when deploying I get this error message and nothing is done.
I have created the ovf for three times, butit is always the same.
The OVF file is created using Vmware converter 5.5.3 with Vm ware workstation 10.
Does any body know something aout this error message?
Thansk very much in advance,

Re: When logging onto ESXi 5.5u2 with vSphere 'Your evaluation license will expire within 14 days!'
Just like the junky vsphere web client you need to keep at least 4 different browsers installed and try it from each for any random time is decides to not work.
Multisite SSO with 2 Separate vCenter Environments (Test/Live)
I currently have two separate vCenter environments which I would like to be available in one 'Web Client' so basically I would like our Test and Live Environment available in our Live webclient
Currently we have two completely separate SSOs, Inventory, vCenter databases (Which are dedicated servers).
I've been doing some research and it appears you need to add one of the vCenter servers with the 3rd option
vCenter Single Sign-on for an additional vCenter Server with a new site
I wanted to double check if anyone has set this up, would I need to uninstall the test vCenter install (including SSO), then reinstall with custom mode, choosing the above 3rd option for SSO, pointing that at the live site? then running through the rest of the custom install as a normal install?
I will also be completing the rest of the prereqs
Re: Cd/DVD Drive unsupported
Just started seeing this as well.
Using VmWare Fusion Pro with external monitor
I have recently added a monitor to my macbook pro, i want it as an extension to my laptop screen which works perfectly on osx.
But when i use VMWare Fusion it only mirrors the laptop screen, i have tried numerous things but none of which are working.
